Puppy cut paw on glass, stopped bleeding. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 26 days old | 9 lbs

My puppy cut her paw today and not sure if I need to take her to the vet. She cut it on a piece of glass and I washed it out with water. It stopped bleeding after a couple minutes and she is a little gimpy but is still playful. What do you think?

Ouch, poor Princess! That doesn't look deep enough to require stitches, so I'd keep an eye on it for now. Wash it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
