Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 12 lbs
This morning our cat yakked up a large hairball, not common occurrence by the way, picking him up there was a death howl from him when we touched his abdomen area, researching we think its possibly constipation, we have put a pinch of psyllium and olive oil in his wet food but he is not interested in eating. he is laying down but every so often the death howl occurs, before we discomfort him more by transporting to vet any advice or ideas on this issue ? many thanks in advance , Dave and Steph

Poor OC! It’s true that vomiting (hair balls, or otherwise) and abdominal pain could be caused by constipation - but they could also be caused by something much more urgent and serious, such as a urinary obstruction or an intestinal foreign body. Because of this, I would strongly recommend taking him to an emergency clinic right away for an exam, rather than attempting any home remedies. The veterinarian on duty can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.
