My puppy is a picky eater. How can I get him to eat his food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 30 days old | 13 lbs

My puppy refuses to eat his food and shows no interest in it, I've tried wet and dry food and even went to the local vet and they gave him some food to try but still no results. Any tips to get him to eat?

You could try heating some canned food a little and mixing it with some dry to tempt him to eat. You could also try a few different brands and flavors. It sounds like the vet examined him and there was not concern for a medical condition - if so you may be able to safely offer some food and wait until he eats to offer anything else - he may simply be picky. Check with your vet to make sure he’s growing appropriately first.
