What's causing the red spot around my hamster's eye? Is it serious?

Hi, recently I noticed that there is a red spot around my Hamster’s eye and I don’t know what caused this to happen. As you can see on the picture attached. Do you have any idea what might have caused the redness around my Hamster’s eye? Thank you! Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well (in case of a trauma).
