My dog or cat has a cut. Does it need stitches? What do I do now?

It looks like it may require sutures (stitches). For now, place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking. Restrict his activity if possible. If he will tolerate it, place a light dressing or wrap on it to keep it clean. If there is active bleeding, gentle pressure with a clean cloth should be applied. Seek veterinary attention if the bleeding doesn't stop.
