Pet's info: Small Animal | Chinchilla | Male | unneutered
Hello. I am tommy. I have a male chinchilla, Remi is his name. Today he has had mushy poop. I wouldn’t say full blown diarrhea, but texturally different from the usual poop pellets he leaves. He is still eating, drinking, playing and hopping around as normal. I just want to know if it’s a serious problem and what could cause this ?

Hi Tommy, thanks for using Pet Coach. I would only consider this a serious issue if the problem persists. Did you give Remi any new foods in the past few days? If so, that may be the cause. I just recommend you monitor this issue and if this continues, then get him to a vet for an exam. Diarrhea is a very non-specific symptom. There are many, many things that can cause diarrhea so a vet will need to examine him and do a fecal test to see if they can find out the source of the problem. Just be sure you have him on a high quality diet like Oxbow: ( http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/products/species/chinchillas ) If you are going to change diets, do it slowly over a week's time or you may cause more diarrhea. If you'd like, you can feed him a digestive support supplement for the next couple weeks. This won't hurt and it may help.
