New kitten not pooping after moving home? When to see a vet.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 6 days old | 2 lbs

My kitten hasn’t defecated since Wednesday. We got her on Tuesday and she’s been playing, eating, urinating in the litter box normally. We’ve tried adding water to her wet food, massaging her, and she had her vaccinations yesterday (the vet said she should very soon). I was wondering if it was the change in diet or stress of new environment that I should wait out or take her to a vet.

It could be the stress of moving into a new place and the change in diet. It's good that Tofu is acting normally, but I'd give her overnight to see if she poops. If she does not, then I would take her into the vet. Best of luck.

Congrats on your new cat! Moving into a new home is stressful, and it will take time for Rosie to adjust. It's good that she is eating and drinking, and I bet she will poop eventually. Just keep an eye on things, and if she hasn't pooped in another 24 hours, then I would be concerned and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps, enjoy your new cat!

Congrats on your new kitten! Ragdolls are awesome cats, I have one of my own and they are my favorite breed of cats. Moving into a new home is stressful for a kitten, and it will take him time to adjust. If he hasn't been eating, there will be nothing for him to poop and that could be why he hasn't pooped. I wouldn't get too concerned about it just yet, and I would monitor him for now. If he still hasn't pooped in another 24-48 hours, then I would have him seen by a vet.
