Why is my dog's stool bloody when anal glands need expressing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 65 lbs

Every so often I will see blood in her stool, it isn't a lot and it's usually if I'm late in getting her anal glands expressed. She drinks water, is active and otherwise acts normal, could this be because of her glands? Or is there something else wrong? I am taking her to the vet tomorrow for an expression.

If this blood usually appears when you are late getting Zoey's anal sacs expressed, this may be the cause. It could also be due to intestinal worms, so make sure she is up to date on her deworming treatment. I hope this helps!
