My dog broke a nail, quick exposed, not limping. Vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 85 lbs

Hello, I just noticed that my dog has a broken nail as in the tip has broken off. There aren’t any pieces hanging, but I’m worried the quick may be exposed. She isn’t limping/favoring her other foot, and she is running around playing like it isn’t bothering her. Should I take her to the vet? Thanks in advance!

So I would just watch it closely. I would make sure she doesn't lick it as then it could become infection. If needed, I would put a cone collar on her. If it is bleeding or she is trying to mess with it, I would have your vet take a look at it. You vet will be able to medicate it and put her on meds if needed. I hope this helps!
