My puppy is vomiting and lethargic after his vaccine. What to do?

My puppy got his flu shot booster yesterday. He vomited 2x overnight and now is very lethargic. He didn't even move when I left the house before 5 for the gym. This is my first dog and first time he's acting like this and I'm trying to figure out how concerned I should be and what I need to do to care for him. Do I just let him sleep? Should I keep him from food or feed him something other than kibble? He hasn't been interested in H2O either. Do I need to encourage him to drink? Some dogs can have an adverse reaction to vaccines that makes them feel sick afterwards, similarly to humans. I recommend letting him rest for the remainder of the morning. You can try adding some chicken broth to his water to encourage him to drink. You can also try offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and boiled rice (in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat) to see if this stimulates his appetite. I would expect him to start feeling better by mid-day today. If he still seems lethargic or continues to vomit, I recommend contacting your veterinarian to let him/her know right away. Oftentimes, veterinarians like to document when pets get sick from vaccinations. I hope this is helpful!
