Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Male cat had catheter 4 days ago. Catheter has blood clots and white mucus kind of substance passing through the tube. And urine is yellow with tinge of blood. How long before the catheter be removed?

Hello. Was your cat blocked ( unable to urinate )? If so, it just really depends on the cat. Catheters are generally removed within 12 - 24 hours, so I cannot tell you why your cat still has a catheter. The longer it is in, the more irritating the urethra becomes. It sounds to me like it is time to remove the catheter, so speak with your vet at your earliest convenience to see if now is the time. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
