I accidentally gave my bunny too much cisapride. Is it safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 2.5 lbs

I accidentally gave my bunny .5cc of cisapride instead of the prescribed .09cc. I called the vet and they said it should be fine as long as I skip the next two doses. I just wanted a second opinion about the cisapride.

its a little hard to know the answer to your question because I don't know the concentration of the cisapride. This medication is compounded, so the concentration (the milligrams(mg) of drug in a cc ) can vary. The typical recommended dose for cisapride in rabbits is 0.5mg/kg every 6-12 hours. If your bunny weights 2.5 pounds, that is just over 1kg, so a recommended dose would be about 0.5mg. As long as you don't exceed 2mg in a 24 hour period, I don't think you need to worry. I hope that helps you! Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
