My puppy sleeps a lot and won't drink after vaccine. Is it parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

My puppy went for his second vaccination on friday . He is a 2 months old lhasa apso. The vaccination was of Coronna virus. There a parvo virus shih-tzu was being treated although we were 5 arms distance from him still. Post the vaccination my puppy is sleeping a lot than usual since 3 days. Though whenever he plays he is very active .. just that we are not used to see him sleep that much. He has been eating well but refuses to drink water. Can it be parvo?

The Parvo virus has an incubation period of 7-14 days so even if it was related to that puppy, it would be too early for any signs to develope. The virus is spread easily and can spread on things like shoes and floors. So always holding the puppy and not allowing him to walk around is a good safety measure. Monitor very closely for signs of Parvo such as by eating well, vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. Go to the veterinarian if these are seen. Each vaccine lends some protection so make sure to stay up to date with the booster vaccines. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
