Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Female | spayed | 5 months and 6 days old | 18 lbs

Penny eats 1.5 cups of Orijen puppy food. I give her treats, but rarely. Lately, the past few days, she has really, really bad gas and a lot of it. What could be causing this?? How can I help??

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Penny. I'm wondering if you have been giving her different flavors of treats, or new treats. This change could cause the gas. Stop giving her treats for the next week, and see if that helps the gas. If it doesn't, it may be her food. Many vets see GI problems with dogs on grain free foods. You may consider switching foods to one with grains. Please know that vets are seeing a rise in heart disease in dogs who are fed grain free diets, and many dogs have died from the heart disease suddenly. The FDA is now investigating this link. I hope this helps.
