My dog has sudden diarrhea and house accidents. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 10 months old | 55 lbs

My dog just recently began having large numbers of loose stools since Friday and pooped in the house 6 times since I've been at work. He recently had stitches that came out about 10 days ago. Is this something that could pass or should he be taken into a vet?

I am worried that he has had so many loose stools in such a short period of time. I worry that he may be becoming dehydrated. You can try to feed him some plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this settles his tummy, but if he isn't improving soon, I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get him started on some meds to help settle his tummy and slow down the loose stools. I hope this helps!
