My 9-month-old cat is in heat often, losing weight. Is this unhealthy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 5 days old

My 9 month old cat has gone into heat 3 times since Thanksgiving Day (the beginning of her first heat). Is this unhealthy for her? She barely eats during this time and has lost a bit of weight since then. She is scheduled to be spayed this week but I’m also concerned because she has been showing signs of heat for 1 week today and though it’s lessening in severity, I’m not sure she will be finished in time for her surgery.

It's not unhealthy for Audrey, cats can cycle quickly but it does slow down during the winter. It is concerning, however, that she eats less during this time and has lost weight. Hopefully she will be out of heat by the time of her surgery, but she can still be spayed even if she is in heat. You are doing the right thing by having her spayed. Best of luck.
