Found a hard, growing lump on my senior dog's back. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 14 years and 1 month old | 11.5 lbs

I brought my 14 Y/O Chihuahua in for a senior wellness exam a few weeks ago. She did very well. Now in the week I have noticed a large "mass" kind of in her hip area. Kind of on her back but below her rib cage. She had a fatty tumor tested at her exam but that was more in her shoulder area. That one was softer. This is hard and in my opinion it has grown in the last week. She is not in distress at all but actually acting a little peppier than usual.

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Zoey to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
