Can dogs eat eggs? Cooked vs. raw & safe homemade protein sources?

Can I give eggs to Mike? Should I cook them or raw eggs won't harm him? The websites on the internet are really confusing. What are the rich sources of protein that I can include in his homemade food?

Cooked eggs are fine to give to Mike, but I do not recommend giving him raw eggs. They are not safe to give to him. When you make the eggs for him, fully cook them such as hard boiled or scrambled with no added seasonings (that includes salt and pepper). Do not give him the shells. Protein sources include low fat meats such as beef and chicken. I will put a link below to two websites that offer recipes for healthy and balanced homemade diets. No on the raw eggs. Just like people are not supposed to eat raw eggs. The chances of contracting Salmonella bacteria is very high and that can kill your dog. Not worth it. You can give him cooked eggs if you'd like (no butter, oil or spices). There is really no benefit; it would just be for a treat. All high quality, premium dog foods are balanced (look for the AAFCO statement on the bag) and you really don't need to give extra supplements unless your vet says your dog needs it for some underlying condition. Just feed Diesel a high quality diet like Royal Canin and he will have everything he needs.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Eggs are very healthy for dogs (and humans). The yolk is fatty however, so you need to watch how many calories of dog food you are feeding so Peanut doesn’t become overweight. Also, if you are feeding a high quality dog food (like Hills, Purina One, Royal Canin, or Iams) you shouldn’t need to add eggs. Good luck and kisses to Peanut!

Yes, but it is not good to feed it raw. Raw eggs can carry salmonella bacteria which can make him very sick and he can even die from it. Raw eggs also contain an enzyme that hinders absorption of vitamin B. It is better to feed eggs scrambled or hard boiled. Yes, you can make eggs for Hunter if you want to - they're a fairly good, healthy treat as long as you give them in moderation. You can make them scrambled or fried, just make sure to cook the yolk to avoid any risk of salmonella - just like in humans :)

Great question! No, it's not safe to give dogs raw eggs. You can boil them or scramble them to give to Sharon. Just be sure that if you scramble them, you don't add any seasonings or cook them in butter or oil. Make sure they are plain eggs. I hope this helps!

Eggs can be a great supplement to a dogs diet but the whites should always be cooked as there is a substance in them which can inctivate biotin, an important b vitamin. Egg shells can be a good source of minerals such as calcium but I would recommend no more than one shell daily and to ensure it is well broken up so the sharp edges do not cause injury

I have 4 yrs indian spitz and his wt is around 28 pounds. On daily basis..how many eggs should i give to him.?????
Eggs are fine as an occasional treat, but it's not something that Andy should get daily. The only food that a dog needs is a high quality dog food, which will provide him all the nutrients he needs to be healthy. Adding additional food on top of that will lead to extra calories and weight gain. Weight gain leads to obesity, which in turn leads to its own health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems. It would be fine to give him a boiled egg (no shell) once or twice a week as a treat. You can also give him a scrambled egg, but make sure it's egg only and no seasonings etc. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Norik. Some puppies and dogs are extremely sensitive to any changes in their diet. Some will tolerate and others will react like this. The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) does NOT support the use of raw foods for pets. If you want to feed him some eggs or egg yolks, I would lightly cook them and see if he can keep them down. Start with small amounts added to his regular food. Eggs and yolks are great protein and fat sources. Good luck
