My dog keeps vomiting bile and won't eat. Is he okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 16 lbs

Hi my half breed yorkie/ shih tzu, "Lil Bit" vomited bile 3x the day before yesterday. Then yesterday he was given no food until evening around 7pm I made him chicken and rice, he didn't touch his food, and last night I noticed he laid down and changed his position 4x or 5x like he was uncomfortable, he doesn't seem to be lethargic he went on a walk yesterday, and he is drinking water, but today as well he wants nothing to eat, what do you think and what should I do.

I am sorry to hear about Lil Bit- he is quite a cutie! I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam since it has been 24 hours and he isn't back to his normal self yet. If he is seeming uncomfortable/painful and is not wanting to eat we worry about things like pancreatitis which can cause these symptoms and often require supportive care such as anti-nausea medication, pain medication, and fluid therapy to help hydration. We also worry about things like ingestion of foreign objects and inflammation or ulcers of the stomach. The vet will examine him and check for fever and dehydration. Based on his exam they may recommend testing such as an x-ray or bloodwork, which will help to guide his treatment. Best of luck to you and Lil Bit!

It sounds as Lilly is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

It sounds as Scout is probably having a gastrointestinal issue, she is probably nauseous which is why she doesn't eat. you will need to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get her checked, if there is no foreign body blockage suspected she will need some supportive treatment which will include anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days.
