My baby bunny has red eyes and crusty fur. Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 19 days old

My baby bunny has red eyes but I am unsure if he has some sort of sickness like pinkeye or worse or if it is normal for him. He is very lively and seems fine. I am just worried as they are very red in pigment. Also the crusty fur is from milk feeding him through a bottle. He was messy with it and I haven’t cleaned it off entirely as I don’t want to emerge him in water yet, but I’ve tried my best to remove it.

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a severe conjunctivitis, probably secondary to an infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
