Why is my dog's eye pink and watery with discharge? Is it serious?

A pink eye with thick green or yellow discharge could indicate conjunctivitis or something stuck in the conjunctival sac (the tissue surrounding the inner eye). A pink eye with squinting and clear discharge (in your picture the discharge looks more clear), or cloudiness to the eye could be a sign of a scratch on the surface of the eye. I'd recommend having your veterinarian examine Dixie's eye. They can stain her eye to look for a scratch and can prescribe eye medications if needed.
