Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed
my Cat has been chewing on her hind legs. There are now bald spots. There is not inflammation or flakiness. She is full of life and playful. I thought maybe she was just bored or anxious so I started to play with her more. Today she stopped in the middle of play time to chew her leg. What is the next step I should take?

You are right that Lyla could be excessively grooming/aggressively grooming which could result in the hair loss. To be safe, I recommend to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to thoroughly check her for fleas or signs of scabbing which could indicate thyroid issues or underlying allergies. Even without lesions, the doctor may recommend a special food trial or medication to see if perhaps an allergy is present. Sometimes the doctor may prescribe an anti-itching medication to see if there is any change in the behavior as this can help to determine if it is medical or behavioral in nature. If it is determined to be behavioral, there are medications that she can take that will help to control the behavior. I hope this point you in the right direction and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
