My dog has raw, crusty, bleeding sores. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old

My dog has had these "sores" show up gradually over the last week and today she was bleeding a little from one of the sores near her brow. These look raw, crusty and puffy but shes not been any altercations or gone on any walks past the grass in front of my APT in the last 3 weeks due to an injury of my own. She seems to have scratched at the sore and I'm assuming that's why it might have been bleeding a tiny bit, and she isn't lethargic. Shes up to date on all shots. What could this be?

Poor girl! It may be demodex (a type of mange), it could be a bacterial infection, or these spots could be some type of auto-immune disease in the skin such as pemphigus. http://download.skyscape.com/download/ota/5mvetcf5/documents/pdf/pemphigus.pdf This is something that should be evaiuated by a vet sooner rather than later, as delay in proper treatment (depending on the diagnosis), or using the wrong treatment, could make things worse. I try to offer at home solutions when I can, but this is a situation where I really think you should get her in to see your vet. Thanks for asking PetCoach !
