Dog ate toy, vomited, now has bloody diarrhea. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 0 lbs

My dog will eat anything. Yesterday he ate one of his toys and vomited pieces back up. He is fine in himself however on our walk today he was pooping normally and the last poop was just brown water with a drop of blood in it. He's eating drinking and playing as normal. He's a 1 yr old whippet. The vet is not open can this wait until tomorrow?

Hi and Happy New Year, If the dog is otherwise eating, not vomiting and acting normally, you can wait till tomorrow but due to the presence of blood I would still recommend to have him checked by a vet tomorrow. In the meantime while monitoring switch today to a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and rice. If start vomiting or becomes lethargic go to the emergency vet. Hope he will feel better soon.
