My dog's third eyelid is torn. Will it heal naturally or need surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | 70 lbs

I've already been to my vet with myxdog but I just need reassurance on this. My dog Lizzy has torn the inner skin on her eye that when she looks side ways covers the entire side and around her eye. It got torn in half. Vet says it will heal back together on it's own. I'm using drops for the scratched cornea that he have her and when I open her eye that pink tissue still flops out with it being torn. Dows it heal on it's own like the vet says it will?

Pictures would help but most wounds will heal by themselves eventually. I would be concerned if the third eyelid has parted in two that it may not be well aligned during healing and may become crooked. Review by a specialist ophthalmologist or surgeon should be considered to determine if repair is warranted or possible
