My cat ate Christmas ham. Is it safe with her pancreatitis history?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my cat ate Christmas ham out my boyfriends plate an hour ago. It was an accident. She’s on a strict diet of ProPlan EN canned food only because she had pancreatitis once in the past. Should I be worried? Is there any way to stop a bout of pancreatitis from happening? She ate less than half a slice but it was fatty. She’s fine right now but she only ate it an hour ago. Thanks!

Eating fatty things does not cause pancreatitis in cats like it does in dogs, but the ham could cause her some GI upset. I'd keep an eye on her for now, and if she does start vomiting, have diarrhea, stops eating, has a painful abdomen, and/or becomes lethargic, I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.
