My kitten is meowing, peeing on me, and smells. Is it a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | 5 lbs

Hello, my kitten has been meowing all day which it was hard to tell if it was its normal meowing or not because it meows a lot when playing but it started moving its back-legs back and forth and in an almost crawling position. The red flag for me was that the cat peed itself on me which never happened to me before also it has a strong smell of urine. I don't know what to do in this situation. I got the kitten as a stray and recently took it to the vet, my income is low since that but im worried.

All the signs at this stage are quite generic and only the smelly urine could be compatible with an UTI (urinary tract inflammaton/infection). Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
