My senior dogs have loose stools after switching from grain-free.

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | unspayed | 16 lbs

I adopted 2 unrelated former show Bichons 8 and 10 yrs old 3 mos ago. They were eating grain-free food but I don't know why or for how long. I have tried Nature's Recipe and Nutro Ultra and they both have loose foul stools and they go frequently. If they have always been on grain-free could changing to regular be the reason? They have been to the vet and blood and stool samples came back good. I even tried giving them some vegetables but that was not a pretty sight on the other end.

Diarrhea can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast your dogs for 24 hours and then put them on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition to a good quality complete senior food for small dogs slowly over a few days. (Royal Canin, Hill's, Iams or ProPlan) If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if your dogs get lethargic, they need to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
