My dog's dewclaw is sore, loose, and broken under the skin. What now?

Dog's doo claw is very sore. It is loose/wiggling and appears to be broken under the skin. What should I do? Pull it off? Put Neosporin on it and wrap it so it doesn't wiggle? What?

I would recommend that you have Luther examined by a vet. Torn nails are common in dogs, and sometimes they can have a broken bone underneath or become infected. If it is loose enough, I usually pull off the nail and apply a loose sterile bandage. I always prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. If you try to pull of the nail, be aware that they like to bleed a lot!
