Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 18 years and 11 months old | 9.5 lbs
Hi sorry my question keeps getting cut off. Tony has been eating an Rx kidney diet for a month or two now (not without struggle) He is in early stages of kidney disease and I’ve read that kidney diets can cause extreme muscle wasting and should only be fed in later stages. He has lost a little weight over the the last two months , but not even a pound. My vet wants him on kidney food even at his early stage. Is the kidney food the right thing to do in early stages in your opinion? Thanks

Yes, it is a good thing that Tony is on a kidney diet now. Studies have shown that cats with kidney failure who are placed on a kidney diet live on average of two years longer than cats with kidney failure who are not on a kidney diet. I hope this helps!
