My dog's eye is swollen and puffy. What causes it and what can I do?

Hi, I just noticed when I came home from work today that my dog’s left eye was puffy/swollen. She didn’t go anywhere new, and she didn’t get into anything (that I know of). This has never happened before and I’m really worried. She doesn’t seem to be in pain and there’s no squintin.I’ve wiped around her eye with a warm rag, but the swelling is still there. She does have a history of tearing eyes. Could that have anything to do with it? Is there anything else i can try to help with the swelling?

It's possible that Daisy is having an allergic reaction if the area around her eye is swollen. Allergic reactions are usually treated with injectable or oral antihistamines and corticosteroids. If the actual eye itself appears swollen or red she could have conjunctivitis, a corneal abrasion, or even something like glaucoma. I'd recommend having your vet examine her eye in person. If both eyes or her muzzle become swollen you should see an emergency treatment for an allergic reaction.
