My dog's hip dysplasia pain is unbearable after PT. Meds not helping!

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 28 days old | 4.2 lbs

Elizabeth Shines, DVM Coco has mid hip Dysplasia and his orthopedic wants him to do PT and he had PT yesterday and today he was in unbearable pain yesterday after PT his orthopedic and PT didn’t want him too miss an appointment today he tried to work on him he wouldn’t his pain was unbearable his orthopedic put him on Tramadol and Rimadyl Firocoxib it does not seem to help at all

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry Coco is in such pain. Sounds like he is on some good pain medications, but may benefit from a stronger pain medication such as another opioid like buprenorphine or hydromorphone to help control his pain levels. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe either of these medications for Coco so he feels a bit more comfortable. Cold laser therapy is another therapy that may be available through your veterinarian to help control pain. Hip dysplasia, sometimes, does require surgery to help fix so Coco can live a more normal pain free life. I hope this helps!
