My new puppy is throwing up, has diarrhea, and won't eat. Vet needed?

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 2 days old

Hi! I just purchased an 8 week old puppy on Saturday. She ate the food that she was eating before we got her. She ended up throwing up and having diarrhea. She drank water and I gave her honey, since she is a teacup poodle. She didn’t each much at all on Sunday, maybe a few pieces of food. Same yesterday until last night I make boiled chicken and white rice for her. She ate all of it. This morning she has had diarrhea and has thrown up. Should I bring her in, or do you have any suggestions?

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Dolly is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Dolly evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on medications to make her feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!
