My dog is vomiting yellow liquid repeatedly. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

My dog Miya was sleeping right on the couch with me. Then just all of a sudden got up and throw up her dog food. She has vomited a few times now, like she will sleep then vomit, sleep then vomit. After the first throw up, now it ismostly just a yellow milky gross watery stuff. But shes done that a couple times like 6 times. I tried giving her alittle water she would only lick it off my hand. Miya is a 4 year old German shepherd. Will only eat when my husband and I are home. Should I be worried?

Hi, and thanks for your question. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
