My rabbit is holding its hind leg up after vet visit. Will it heal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 4.18 lbs

Hello. My rabbit is holding its hind leg up and walking. He can stand or sit on it but walks putting the leg upwards. I went to a vet. He gave pen meds for 5 days. Today is the first day. My rabbit doesn’t seem to be bothered though he jumps and plays as usual but holding the leg higher. Will his leg be fine?? And vet said to give him vitamin C to boost healing. Is there anything else to do?? Btw it’s the right leg. Thank you so much.

Thanks for reaching out about Chowder and including a photo. Concerns would be leg trauma such as a dislocated hip or fracture. Radiographs should be taken to assess the situation. If an abscess was identified, procaine penicillin G is a broad spectrum antibiotic, and should definitely continued. Good luck.
