Why is my unspayed female dog lethargic, eating less, and withdrawn?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 65 lbs

My dog sadie ( a female pit/lab mix) has been acting weird lately. she sits in her cage most of the day even though we let her outside as much as possible. she might have been in heat a few weeks ago, but i'm not sure if it was her or my other dog or both. she eats way less than normal as well. when she sits with me on the couch she curls up in the corner instead of like going crazy how she normally does. she's about a year and 8 months old.

I suggest you watch her water intake as well. If she appears ill and drinks more water than usual, then you should take her to a veterinarian for an exam as she may be suffering from an infection, especially a uterine infection. You can also inspect her vulva. If you see milky or pussy discharge then she definitely has to see a veterinarian right away. Unfortunately the signs you describe are too general to be able to pinpoint a problem without a hands-on exam.
