Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 13 years old | 89 lbs
I have a golden retriever, Riley. He has severe arthritis in his spine. He has been limping on his right leg but not it is much worse to the point he is not very mobile. When he is taken outside, he will walk fine with a stumble. Within the house we have hard wood floors and when he gets up and goes to walk the carpal part of his right leg will fold under. What could possibly be the issue with the leg? Is he losing feeling? If so, can older dogs recover? He just turned 13.

Yes he may well be losing sensation in the limb or may be too uncomfortable or weak to correct it. I strongly recommend a full physical exam by your vet and review of his current arthritis medications as there may be an opportunity to adjust the medications and improve comfort as well as reduce swelling which may be putting additional pressure of the nerves. Chiropractic care and acupuncture can also provide relief of such symptoms
