Why is my ferret sick, not eating, and vet treatments aren't helping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a ferret that's gotten ill in the last past 5 days, she's bloated, lost a lot of weight, has no energy, stopped eating, stopped drinking. I took her to my vet to get an X-RAY, and nothing came up. The only problem is nothing that's been given to her is working. Antibiotics and fluid transfer. Her pain in directly from her stomach, she's also been vomitting and not using the bathroom often. Any suggestions?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to conditions such as pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. I suggest other diagnostics are performed at this point such as abdominal ultrasound and labwork. It is crucial to find out exactly what is going on so that therapy can be used based on the specific condition. In the meantime, they may be able to prescribe anti-nausea medications as that may be why she is not eating well. Best of luck!
