My dog is vomiting and lethargic. What can I give her at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | spayed | 10 months and 26 days old | 50 lbs

My 50 pound, 11 month old Goldendoodle has been vomiting today and is very lethargic. Nose is cold and wet, gums are pick and not sticky, skin is not tenting. Vomited x 4 throughout day. First time appeared to be yesterday’s formed food, kibble. Last 3 times, appears to be frothy bile type liquid. She is drinking water. Anything that I might have in the house, that I could give her until I can call vet tomorrow? No known health issues. ABD soft nontender This, Devera Grashuis

Gabrielle is gorgeous! I am so sorry she is not feeling well! I actually would pull up all food for overnight. If she continues to vomit while fasting I would recommend an emergency hospital. This is to make sure there is no foreign object causing an obstruction and if not they can actually give an injection to stop the vomiting. If she is sleeping and you do not feed her and she is not vomiting, it is ok to wait until the morning. Even though she doesn't have the signs of dehydration she still is dehydrated due to the fact she is vomiting. I would make sure she has access to water. If she can drink and not vomit that is a good sign. If she does drink and vomit I would recommend an emergency hospital. If she is doing well tomorrow you can try a very small amount of boiled chicken and white rice but ideally she would see a veterinarian. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope she feels better very soon!
