Cat's thigh wound has red scabs. Should I use antibacterial cream?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old

Hi, I've currently been recommended by a 24 hour hotline (vets) to put a cone on a cat to stop him licking his wound on his thigh to help it heal. (It's slowly working) but he's got very sensitive skin and all I'm doing is putting E45 cream on it. But some areas still have red scabs. I'm wondering if I should maybe use a antibacterial cream instead. He's still happy, eating and going to the toilet I just want his skin sorted. Any advice is amazing help. Thanks!!

I highly recommend you take your cat to a veterinary office for a hands on exam and determination what is causing this lesion. This could be bacterial or fungal or allergic and the cause should be addressed specifically. This looks like a severe condition that will not just heal by itself.
