Why is my senior dog not eating, throwing up, and breathing hard?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My senior dog hasn’t been able to get up, doesn’t eat food just drinks water but occasionally throws it up in a clear foam slimy way. When he lays he’s breathing really hard. What does he have?

In a senior dog, there are a number of things that could be causing this such as kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, or cancer. He sounds very ill, and I think he needs immediate veterinary care. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.
