My cat stopped eating wet food. Should I be worried or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

I have a cat, approximately 2.5 years old whose appetite has decreased in the last two weeks or so. She will eat a few small bites of her normal wet food before trying to bury it, whereas she used to lick the bowl clean. She’s still eating “treat” type dry food and drinking water. I’m uncertain if I should make an appointment with the vet.

It sounds like she does not like her food anymore. Try some pate-style canned food, (most cats love Fancy Feast), warm it up in the microwave. If this does not work she should be seen by a veterinarian for an exam.
