My puppy had a blood droplet after pooping hard stool. Should I worry?

Droplet of blood during pooping My puppy went poop and when she finished a droplet of blood fell to the floor. She is eating and normal energy this morning. She pooped twice within the last 3 hours with solid stool. The first was hard and dry, the second was softer and wet. Should I be worried?

This droplet could be from a little injury in the rectum when she had the hard, dry poop. She must have held that in for longer than usual, then the body pulls more moisture out and it becomes dark, hard and dry. If this was the only time a droplet of blood comes out and there are no further ones, then I do not think you have to worry Should this happen often, then she could be suffering from worms, colitis or a similar cause and I would bring a stool sample (fresh) and your dog to the vet for an exam.

If he was passing a hard stool, it could be due to damage from that. It could also be due to intestinal parasites, eating something rotten, or trauma to the GI tract. Given it was only one drop, I would keep an eye on him for now. If he starts to have more blood in his feces, becomes very lethargic, stops eating, and starts vomiting, I would have him seen by a vet right away. Because he has hard stool sometimes, he may not be getting enough fiber in his diet, and you can mix in a tablespoon of pumpkin puree with his food to see if that helps.
