Puppy ate treats, now has yellow, liquid, mucusy diarrhea. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 18 days old

I have a puppy that is 2 months and 18 days old, he is eating and acting regularly but this morning he had a few bowel movements that were yellow and almost all liquid with some small chunks, and was kind of mucusy. He did get into a bunch of dog treats the day before and ate quite a bit before his baby sitter stopped him. I dont know if that could be why. I also have a question about whether its normal for a puppy to constantly sniff around and try to find things to eat and chew on.

Poor puppy! Given that he got into treats yesterday, that could be the cause of his diarrhea. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6-8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
