My new puppy won't eat, vomits yellow foam, and is lethargic.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed

Just adopted a 7 month puppy. She is vaccinated. She was fine the first two days but today she won't eat or drink and she started to throw up yellow foam. She did poop normal in the morning (9am) it is now 2pm. She also seems a bit lethargic. What can I do? I'm worried that she won't eat and the food that we got her is the same she's always eaten. Should I take her to the vet? Or can I give her something here. I checked her eyes and there is no yellowish tint. Physically she seems ok.

I'm sorry your new puppy is sick! I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
