My new mom kitten is vomiting blood and won't eat. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 15 days old | 6 lbs

My 7 month old kitten recently had a litter of 5. Her poop is very loose, smelly, and cant seem to get enough to eat. Today she started vomiting bile. started out brownish color to a red color. She wont eat or drink. we tried giving her some pedialyte but she wasn't able to keep it down. Do you have any ideas what it could be? And what we should do? We are very concerned. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time. Janet Walker

Hi Janet. I would be very concerned she could have a post-partum complication such as an infection causing her symptoms. I'm also concerned that the red color of her vomit could be due to blood. She needs to see a vet immediately. Please take her and her kittens into a vet now. Best of luck.
