My cat is vomiting foam, not eating, and hiding. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has been vomiting white and then yellow foam for the last two days, and she doesn't eat but only drinks plenty of water. Also, she's been hiding under beds and staying alone! Please help

You need to take her into a vet right away, she sounds very ill. It's actually quite serious when a cat won't eat, and if she doesn't eat for 72 hours, she will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. She needs veterinary care, please take her into one immediately.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Kitty cannot keep anything down at all, I would recommend having her seen before wednesday. She may need xrays or an ultrasound to rule out a mass or blockage. I hope she's better soon.

Hello, I am sorry your kitten is so sick. It is always best to seek out the help of a veterinarian as soon as possible in cases like this. Vomiting will cause severe electrolyte disturbances & significant dehydration. Not eating can cause a cat to develop a life threatening condition called hepatic lipidosis within days of not eating. So yes, you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
