My dog had kennel cough, now can't breathe, drooling, won't eat. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 100 lbs

My dog had kennel cough so me and my fiancé were giving I’m ham and honey, he seemed to be better more like himself, the coughing and dry heaving subsided. Now today he can barely breath out his nose, he has excessive salivation, not eating, wont even take a treat. Wagging his tail but not real active. Eyes are looking a little heavy. We are very concerned about him. He’s a golden retriever Great Pyrenees mixed, and I don’t know what to do.

I am afraid your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian as these signs are those of a more serious upper respiratory infection that will likely need and antibiotic and possibly a decongestant so your dog can breathe properly. Please take Alvin to a veterinarian tomorrow.
