Why is my healthy cat suddenly vomiting and having diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 9.7 lbs

my female cat is 1 1/2 year and healthy and active and eating her wet and dry food normally and her motion is also normal.  only last week i have noticed she vomited once and loose motion once and after that she did not vomit again or did loose motion until today (08/11/2018) morning she vomited and did loose motion. What could be the reason ? Is it that she has accidentally eaten some foreign object that she was not able to digest so she puked. Or there is something else.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting and diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. If this continues, I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. Treatment would depend on findings. Good luck and have a great day!
