My chihuahua's eye is red and looks infected. Should I go to the vet?

My chihuahuas has something wrong with his eye not sure if I need to take him to the vet. The pic is of his right eye which is the worse. The left eye is looking like it is starting to get whatever is wrong with the right eye. Do u know what is wrong with his eye? Treatment for it? And do I need to take him to vet? Thanks for any help!

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
